The Lawrence Brothers Science Camp (LBC) is a week long, on-site summer camp at USD for students entering the 7th, 8th and 9th grades. Beginning in 2002, a yearly theme was chosen for the camp that is broad and includes aspects of physical science, chemical science, life science, mathematics and the health sciences.

The purpose of the camp is to engage young people in the excitement of interdisciplinary topics in science and mathematics through hands-on, minds-on discovery.

Opportunities:

  • One that uses state-of-the-art equipment

  • One that is discovery-based and involves participants designing and carrying out their own experiments

  • One that is directly related to the participant's personal experience

  • One that involves the use of mathematics

  • One that involves the use of computers

  • A keynote speaker on some aspect related to the theme

  • Participants will work in groups for cooperative learning.

Participants will be housed in the residence halls at the university, have meals and activities provided, and will be supervised by undergraduate honor students during the evenings and by the teaching faculty and undergraduate and graduate students throughout the activities and experiments.
