Psychiatry residents offer comprehensive mental health services at three university clinic outpatient facilities in Sioux Falls and at numerous outreach sites throughout the region.

Residency Program

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program offers a unique ability to prepare resident physicians for not only a rural, Midwestern inpatient or outpatient psychiatric practice, but also for a future practice in any number of urban settings, as well as a technologically advanced practice using the latest advancements in tele-psychiatric services. The program is dedicated to providing its fellows with a first-class training experience while promoting an educational environment that is built on a strong work ethic, compassion, integrity, and excellence in care.

Scholarships

Shirley May Van Ferney, M.D. Scholarship

First preference is given to candidates who are working toward a specialty in child psychiatry with an emphasis in childhood and adolescence substance abuse. Second preference will be to other candidates with a specialty in child psychiatry.

We train medical professionals for careers in private, academic or institutioThe award is presented annually based on the following criteria and selected by department faculty:

• National Board score of 650 or more
• Three “A” grades plus one “B” grade on any combination of the following
  
  • Final Oral Exam
  • Psychiatric Written Exam
  • Grade by preceptor
  • Overall grade on Psychiatric rotationsnal-based psychiatry practices.
