Accounting Graduate Student Selected as PCAOB Scholar
“I am deeply grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the PCAOB scholarship,” said Doran. “This award not only alleviates financial challenges but also validates my academic and professional ambitions within the realm of accounting. Beyond its monetary value, this scholarship symbolizes the commitment and encouragement that organizations like the PCAOB extend to emerging professionals. This scholarship inspires me to contribute meaningfully to the industry; it is not just an award but a catalyst for my growth as a responsible auditor equipped to uphold integrity and professionalism in every aspect of my career.”
Since 2011, the PCAOB has administered a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities. The PCAOB Scholars Program seeks to benefit students who are likely to become auditors and to make a difference to students who might otherwise choose a different career path.
An AACSB-accredited business school, the Beacom School of Business was one of 463 selected to nominate a student for the 2024-2025 PCAOB Scholars Program. This is the sixth consecutive year that USD has been selected to nominate a student for the prestigious national scholarship.
Selected students must present aptitude in accounting and auditing evidenced by an overall grade point average of 3.3 or higher or being in the top third of their overall class. Doran was nominated by the USD Division of Accounting and Finance and will receive a $10,000 scholarship to cover educational expenses.
Doran is currently in the master's accounting program, having recently graduated with her undergraduate degree in May 2024. Doran has accepted an audit assistant position with Deloitte in Tempe, Arizona, which she will start after finishing her master’s degree in 2025.
“The Beacom School of Business’s top tier curriculum helped provide me with a solid foundation in accounting principles, auditing standards and regulatory frameworks,” said Doran. “Not only was the Beacom School of Business curriculum comprehensive but also practical, as it helped prepare me with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as an auditor.”
Doran explained that the support and mentorship she received from Beacom faculty and staff as well as invaluable networking opportunities are the practical experiences that have set her up for success in the classroom and beyond.
“The faculty and staff not only provided academic knowledge but were also willing to share their industry and life experiences with me, which has played a huge role in the successes I have seen this far in my professional career,” said Doran. “In addition, there are numerous opportunities to network with professionals in the industry, alumni and potential employers. These connections not only broadened my perspective but also opened doors to internships and job opportunities that were pivotal in gaining practical experience as well as my full-time job with Deloitte.
"The Beacom School of Business has played a multifaceted role in my journey toward the PCAOB Scholar Award," Doran continued. "The accomplishments I have achieved, including receiving the PCAOB Scholar award, would not have been possible without the invaluable support provided by the Beacom School of Business."
