The Technical Division Awards celebrate the achievements and innovations in solid waste management. The awards spotlight exemplary programs, facilities and individuals dedicated to advancing sustainable waste management practices.

Lammers, who is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in the Department of Art and is an engineer at Total Component Solutions, received the award for his sculptures made from scrap metal.

“I am humbled to receive this award,” said Lammers. “This award is largely a result of the metal casting I do. I give credit to Professor Chris Meyer and the ‘sculpture culture’ club. We cast a lot of scrap metal from old radiators and aluminum.”

Lammers completed his undergraduate studies at Dordt University, earning a B.S. in engineering and a B.A. in fine arts: studio (sculpture)/art history. He has always been connected to the land, farming with his father. He is on the Northwest Iowa Experimental Research and Demonstration Farm Board and is currently the student board member of the International Metallographic Society. Lammers was awarded the 2023 Heat Treat Society/Surface Combustion Emerging Leader Award at the International Materials, Applications and Technology conference held in Detroit in October of 2023.

Lammers has also held blacksmithing demonstrations at the Sioux Center Heritage Village Harvest Festival where he shared metal knowledge, bridging the gap between the past, present and future.

Lammers is graduating in May and plans to become a professor of sculpture.
