Eric Schulte, J.D. ’99, B.A. ’94, and Camela Theeler, J.D. ’00, B.A. ’98, both of Sioux Falls, were officially nominated by President Joe Biden’s administration in February. The U.S. Senate approved both nominations last week.

Schulte, a former president of the State Bar of South Dakota, was confirmed for a lifetime appointment to the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota on Wednesday, May 15. Since 2005, he has been a partner at Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith, where he has worked as a litigation lawyer since 2000, specializing in general civil litigation, insurance defense, and commercial and complex litigation. Previously, he served as a law clerk to the South Dakota Second Judicial Circuit in Sioux Falls from 1999 to 2000.

Theeler, a state circuit court judge in Sioux Falls, was confirmed for a lifetime appointment to the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota on Thursday, May 16. She was appointed to South Dakota’s Second Judicial Circuit by former Gov. Dennis Daugaard in 2018. Before her appointment, she worked in private practice with Lynn, Jackson, Schultz & Lebrun in Sioux Falls and served as an assistant U.S. attorney. Theeler was recognized as South Dakota Young Lawyer of the Year in 2009.

Schulte will be assigned to the the Central Division in Pierre, while Theeler will serve the Western Division in Rapid City.
