Dr. DesiRae Muirhead Named New Chair of Pathology
Dr. DesiRae Muirhead has been named the Sanford School of Medicine’s chair of the Department of Pathology.
Dr. Muirhead began her duties in December 2022 and succeeds Dr. Michael Koch, who retired in December after 20 years in the role.
She comes to SSOM from Sanford Health after nearly a decade as program director of the pathology residency program and lab director of Sanford’s microbiology laboratory, and as a board certified pathologist with Sanford Health Pathology Clinic. She has additionally been an assistant professor of pathology with the SSOM since 2008.
Dr. Muirhead received her M.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed residency at the University of Iowa. Professionally, she is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists.
