Fulk Graduates From Rural Health Fellowship Program
The NRHA equips emerging leaders with vital leadership training and executive skills to empower them to play leading roles in ensuring access to high-quality health care for residents of rural communities.
Fulk was one of only 18 individuals chosen from the U.S. for the yearlong program, which aims to educate a network of leaders in rural health care who will step forward to serve in key positions in the association, affiliated advocacy groups and local and state legislative bodies to promote health equity.
As part of the 2025 cohort, Fulk participated in monthly virtual and in-person sessions focused on leadership development and rural health policy. She also collaborated with others to develop a policy brief titled “Rural Medical Debt: A Systematic and Structural Population Health Crisis.”
“This experience strengthened my resolve to advocate for meaningful change at the highest levels of government,” Fulk shared. “It has made me realize those of us entrusted with mentoring the next generation of physicians have a responsibility not only to train excellent clinicians, but also to teach that true service to humanity often requires courage and sacrifice.”
Fulk’s ongoing involvement with the NRHA will enhance the SSOM’s ability to align medical education with workforce needs, expand strategic partnerships and advocate for policies that improve access to care for rural South Dakotans.
