The workshop is intended for school administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, school board members, teachers who serve on a crisis team and law enforcement members. School professionals will learn how to anticipate the unthinkable, employ a standard response protocol and use a standard reunification method should a crisis happen. Attendees will receive six hours of continuing professional development.

Attendees will hear from two experts from the “I Love U Guys” Foundation. Carly Posey, mission director, will give her talk “Anticipating the Unthinkable.” Officer Stacy Avila will discuss the I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method.

The Standard Response Protocol is a proven enhancement to school safety planning, and the Standard Reunification Method fills a critical void in school safety planning: How to reunite students with their parents after a crisis.

Posey is a national speaker and advocate for school safety. Two of her four children were inside Sandy Hook Elementary when an armed man entered the building on Dec. 14, 2012. Today, as mission director for the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, Posey travels the country sharing her story to promote school safety and preparedness. Her experiences as a parent and community member provide a compelling, often heartbreaking, case study for the need to prepare for the unthinkable.

Avila was a police officer for the City of Arvada, Colorado, for 21 years. Avila served as a negotiator on the Jefferson County Regional SWAT team for 15 years and was the primary negotiator at Platte Canyon High School on Sept. 27, 2006.

The “I Love U Guys” Foundation serves the lives of students, administrators, public safety experts, families and first responders through the development and training of school and community safety and family reunification programs. Its programs have been implemented by over 45,000 schools, agencies and organizations across the United States, Canada and 11 other countries.
