Educators Rising is a community-based movement that partners with higher education institutions to create a clear pathway to increase teacher diversity and teacher quality. Each year, the organization celebrates upcoming high school graduates who have committed to pursuing a postsecondary degree in education through signing days.

“We attended these events to show our support for incoming first-year students who will be joining USD as education majors in the fall,” said Dajshon Keel, a recruiter at the School of Education. “Speaking with these students, it is evident that they possess the drive and passion to achieve their goals. As faculty and staff, we strive to support and guide them, helping them feel valued and prepared to reach their ultimate goal of becoming accomplished educators.”

School of Education faculty and staff were represented at various high schools’ signing day events, including at West Central High School in Hartford, Central High School in Aberdeen, Harrisburg High School, Madison High School, Tri-Valley High School in Colton, Yankton High School and Brandon Valley High School.

The School of Education’s commitment to connecting with future educators extends beyond attending signing days. Earlier this year, faculty and staff attended the Educators Rising state conference to share their expertise and encourage students to pursue a career in education. In September 2024, the School of Education will host their annual Educators Rising field trip, where 2023 National Teacher of the Year Rebecka Peterson will speak to aspiring educators.
