Erna Dinata is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Dakota, Department of Social Work, School of Health Sciences. Dinata received her master and PhD degrees in Social Work from the University of Chicago, Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice, and a bachelor degree from the University of Indonesia, Department of Social Welfare, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. She completed her master degree at the University of Chicago as a Fulbright scholar, and was affiliated with the University of California at Berkeley, School of Social Welfare as a Fulbright visiting scholar.

Dinata’s research focuses on the institutional and organizational analysis of social policy implementation, service provision and disparities in public and private human service organizations, especially in the areas of child welfare, health, and vulnerable populations. She has studied the administrative and intermediary structures, public-private delivery systems, and locus of discretion in child welfare. Her interests also include the social construction of social welfare problems and institutions, university-agency and global social work collaborations.
