Area high school students to get history research help from USD History Department faculty
This is the third consecutive year that the Department of History at USD and the University Libraries has hosted a research seminar for Advanced Placement U.S. History students from the Yankton School District. In addition to time spent with faculty and staff, students will have access to resources such as computers and printers at the Academic Commons and the library between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Several faculty and staff members from USD will instruct and assist close to 90 high school students, providing help with research papers and National History Day projects. National History Day is an annual competition every spring for elementary and secondary school students. In the fall, students and teachers begin preparing NHD entries based on the annual theme, which is “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History” for 2012.
“Faculty and staff at USD touch a lot of lives in a positive way and for many, this is the first step on lifelong journey of learning,” said Doug Haar, Yankton School District. “The amount of planning and the individual efforts, and patience of the library staff and History Department are so very much appreciated. This is just a great opportunity for our students.”
