Beta Alpha Psi at The U receives Superior Chapter status
Beta Alpha Psi is the International Honorary Organization for Financial Information Professionals. The international “Superior Chapter” designation was recently bestowed on USD’s BAP chapter during an announcement at the national meeting of BAP in San Jose, Calif. Criteria for this award include successful professional meetings, regional competition success and community service. In addition to receiving the “Superior Chapter” designation, the USD chapter also received a $275 check from KPMG, a global network of professional services firms.
During the 2009-10 academic year, BAP members organized several meetings on campus with accounting and business professionals. They also hosted various presentations from companies such as Eide Bailly, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, RSM McGladrey, Daktronics, FDIC, IRS, and the Office of the Controller of Currency. Additionally, USD chapter members participated in community service activities, including assisting low income and elderly with their taxes during the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, accounting tutoring, Accounting Summer Camp, the Adopt-A-Highway program, CPA Night, and the Arthur Volk Symposium.
“Receiving this award for a fourth straight year is proof of the hard work and dedication that our chapter puts forth every year in order to achieve success,” stated Srini Ragothaman, Ph.D., professor of accounting at USD and BAP advisor. “We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic officer group who made this happen.”
Success in and out of the classroom is seems to be a prerequisite for members of The U’s Theta Upsilon chapter, who meet annually with representatives from leading public accounting firms and private companies. Co-presidents of USD’s BAP chapter are Greg Miner of Le Mars, Iowa, and Nicholas Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D. Additional officers include Jon Callahan of Vermillion, Megan Massen of Brandon, S.D., Christopher Olson of Howard, S.D., Kristine Kueny of Mapleton, Iowa, Lonnie Weier of Viborg, S.D., and Kelsey Huewe of Dell Rapids, S.D.
