Chair of USD Biomedical Engineering panelist at SBIR STTR and Commercialization of Innovations
Engebretson, Ph.D., will join panelists Barry Rosenbaum of the University of Akron Research Foundation and Jane Muir of the University of Florida, and moderator Michael Borrus of X/Seed Capital for the 1:30 p.m. panel Government-University Cooperation: University Perspectives. The forum is part of a daylong schedule of events that include four panel discussions, a keynote address by U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and a closing roundtable.
“It is an honor for USD to have one of its researchers included in an event of the prestigious National Academies,” stated Laura Jenski, Ph.D., vice president for research at USD. “Dr. Engebretson is an excellent example of how our university faculty consider the societal and economic value of the research they do.”
In addition to chairing biomedical engineering at USD, Engebretson is director of the Graduate Education and Applied Research Center at Sioux Falls, S.D. and his major research interests are the development of Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer-based sensors for in vitro diagnostics and targeted drug delivery. Engebretson’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense and the Department of Transportation. He earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Michigan State University.
