Eighth Annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition Set for February 2025
The preliminary round will take place on Feb. 12 from 3-5 p.m., with top students advancing to the finals on Feb. 19 from 3-5 p.m.. Both rounds will be held in the Muenster University Center Ballroom 225B/C.
The USD 3MT competition celebrates the innovative research being done by graduate students at USD, allowing them to communicate the significance and impact of their work. Students have three minutes to present their findings to a non-specialized audience using just one PowerPoint slide. The competition was developed by the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia and is now held at universities across the world.
“USD students are participating in an international program when they choose to compete in 3MT,” said Brittany Wagner, director of graduate education. “The 3MT competition is held at over 900 universities in over 85 countries. I would put our participants up against any competitors across the globe, and they would hold their own. This competition showcases the incredible things our students are doing at USD to the world.”
The first-place winner will receive $350 and an opportunity to represent USD at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) 3MT competition in Indianapolis on April 4, 2025. Second and third-place winners will be awarded $250 and $150, respectively.
The competition is free and open to the public, and both rounds will also be livestreamed on the USD Graduate School Facebook page. For more information on the competition and eligibility, visit usd.edu/3MT.
