Historical Society Honors History Professor
He received a certificate of recognition “for demonstrating outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in the collection, preservation and interpretation of South Dakota history.”
Among his contributions during 21 years at USD: Bucklin wrote what has become the standard history of the modern South Dakota National Guard, “From Cold War to Gulf War: The South Dakota National Guard, 1945 to the Millennium”; edited or authored four articles published in “South Dakota History” (with a fifth authored article coming out next winter); written “Going Places,” the history the South Dakota Department of Transportation; supervised and conducted 30 oral histories of South Dakota Vietnam veterans, elected and appointed public officials, and everyday citizens; and secured the donation of the Frank Day Oral history collection to USD Special Collections/Oral History Center.
