According to Barb Brockevelt, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of USD's Department of Occupational Therapy, students must pass this exam to be eligible for state licensure in any United States jurisdiction. While the four-year 100 percent score is impressive, Brockevelt added that USD students have had a first-time pass rate of 98 percent during the 15-year history of the graduate board exam results. The national average is 87 percent.

"This verifies the commitment our students have in our program as well as the extraordinary efforts of our faculty to prepare students for the NBCOT exam," said Brockevelt, who added that the USD program is 18 years old, beginning in 1991. "It's a tribute to everyone involved in the occupational therapy program at USD."

The Occupational Therapy program at The U is the only master's-level occupational therapy program in South Dakota. This graduate program leads to a Master of Science degree and prepares students for entry-level positions with emphasis on rural, multicultural and multi-service delivery practices.
