Sanford School of Medicine Yankton AHEC host CLIC Conference
Sponsored by Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, The Yankton Education and Health Care Fund, Inc. and Yankton Rural Area Health Education Center (AHEC), the conference will bring together a scholarly community of professionals and students interested in fully exploring, communicating, testing and understanding the LIC model and its underlying principles for medical education.
Activities begin Wednesday evening with a poster session and a reception, and conclude on Friday, Sept. 23 with a dinner and entertainment at Minerva’s at the Best Western Kelly Inn in Yankton. Scheduled programs and presentations during the three-day symposium include plenary sessions on the future of longitudinal integrated models across the four years of medical school and in graduate medical education, as well as the health care systems. There will be workshops on key elements of the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (LIC) model, large group and small group sessions on creating and up-scaling LIC programs. Keynote speakers will address the development and critical features of the LIC model, expansion of the LIC model and future research in medical education.
Keynote speakers are Robert Talley, M.D., M.A.C.P./Professor and Associate Program Director Internal Medicine Residency Program, Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota; David M. Irby, Ph.D., Professor of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine; Henry F. C. Weil, M.D., Assistant Dean for Medical Education at Bassett Healthcare and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University; Deborah Powell, M.D., Associate Vice President and Dean Emeritus, University of Minnesota Medical School; and Paul Worley, Ph.D., Deputy Executive Dean and Dean of Medicine Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia.
The Consortium of Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (CLIC) is a group of faculty from medical schools around the world developing, implementing and studying the longitudinal integrated clerkship model to address core clinical training for undergraduate medical education.
