The Sound of USD will be formally invited to tour London, including a performance at The New Year's Day Parade and Festival, during a visit by the former Lord Mayor of London, Catherine Longworth, at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.

Catherine Longworth was elected to Westminster City Council in 1994 and served as vice-chair of the Education Committee, chair of Social Services and cabinet member for Environment & Leisure before becoming Lord Mayor in 2004. Currently, she is a non-executive director and deputy chair of Westminster's NHS Primary Care Trust, chair of Francis Holland Schools Trust, and is heavily involved with two arts charities in the United Kingdom. She will be accompanied by her husband, John Longworth, and London Parade and Festival Directors Robert and Geraldine Bone.

The Sound of USD is a visible and active part of USD campus life. The band includes brass, woodwinds, percussion, and color guard and performs a wide variety of musical genres. The Sound is open to all USD students and performs at home football games, as the exhibition band at contests and festivals, and travels frequently in the quad state area. The Sound has traveled and performed internationally and continues to offer opportunities to perform abroad.
