Two Bulls Presents Printmaking Lecture
Two Bulls, a Lakota artist and founder of Rapid City-based Bad Art Press, won the 2015 Artist and Business Fellowship from the First People’s Fund and served as the Northern Plains Artist in Residence at USD in the summer of 2016.
“A lot of my work takes a glimpse into the past. Taking old stories and adding a twist,” said Two Bulls, switching between slides showcasing his work.
Two Bulls’ art juxtaposes turn-of-the-century black and white photographs with vivid colors and pop culture symbolism. He wrestles with topics such as land rights, drug addiction, tribal identity and historical reconciliation.
Two Bulls encouraged students to use art to “break the mold of what you are told you are supposed to be.”
The John A. Day Gallery, located in the Warren M. Lee Center for Fine Arts, will feature Two Bulls’ exhibit Friday, Jan. 13 at 9 a.m - 5 p.m., followed by a gallery reception 6-8 p.m. open to the public.
