University Art Galleries at The U announces 2009 10 schedule
The fall semester highlights include a retrospective exhibition entitled "Both Sides of the River" featuring the artwork of Mel Spinar, a long-time South Dakota artist and educator. During Dakota Days, the Main Gallery will host several events for USD alumni, including an alumni exhibition with works from more than 80 artists who have graduated from the USD Department of Art. Ashley Hope Carlisle, University of Wyoming sculpture professor, will display her work in a solo exhibition, "Dissemination Nation."
The spring semester includes a Graphic Design Invitational and a group exhibition showcasing Kansas City artists, "Black & Blue: Kansas City's Grit & Grace." The spring semester also features the annual Stilwell Student Awards Exhibition, which is in its 23rd year with Fred Hagstrom, professor of art at Carleton College, serving as the juror for this exhibition.
The Main Gallery at The University of South Dakota is located in the Warren M. Lee Center for Fine Arts. The gallery is open year-round from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. weekends.
