USD Archer Shoots for Gold
“Archery is addicting. As soon as you start shooting, you’re always in a pursuit of perfection that you’ll never catch,” said Weissinger, a first-year elementary education major and member of the Coyote Archery Club.
Weissinger, currently ranked third based on the preliminary competition, will compete head-to-head against seven other archers throughout the three-day competition.
“What makes Robby unique is his intense drive to prepare,” said Josahan Jaime-Santacruz, coaching and programs director at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center. “He shoots for at least two or three hours, but sometimes five or six hours a day.”
The NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center hosts the USD Coyote Archery Club every Monday and Wednesday 7-9 p.m. All skill levels are welcome to attend.
“Great thing about archery is that everybody has to start somewhere,” said Weissinger. “I want to win a gold medal at the Olympics someday. That’s my goal. That’s what keeps me coming back everyday, knowing that if I keep working, I’ll get there.”
