USD grad student receives MRNRC research recognition
Caton’s poster, “Forest Structure and Successional Patterns of Cottonwood Dominated Riparian Forests on the Missouri National Recreational River in South Dakota and Nebraska,” was recognized as one of the top three out of 42 posters presented at the conference. His poster was co-authored by Rebekah Jessen, a biology graduate student, Dr. Mark Dixon of USD and Dr. W. Carter Johnson of South Dakota State University. The MRNRC Conference is a forum for the presentation of biological research on the Missouri River. More than 300 members from universities, non-governmental organizations, and federal, state, local and tribal government agencies attended the annual meeting.
In addition to Caton, who is from Arlington, Neb., other presentations at the MRNRC Conference by USD researchers included a poster by Jessen that was co-authored by Caton, Dixon, Johnson and Gary Larson of SDSU; and an oral presentation by Dixon, an assistant professor of biology. Dixon’s talk was co-authored by Caton, Jessen, Johnson, Wes Christensen, Lisa Rabbe of the US Army Corps of Engineers, and Tim Cowman of the Missouri River Institute at USD.
