USD presents annual Dr Martin Luther King Jr programming
On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the campus community will have the opportunity to screen Wilson’s critically acclaimed documentary “Meeting David Wilson” at 6 p.m. at the Freedom Forum Conference room in the Al Neuharth Media Center. A question and answer session is scheduled to follow screening of the film. Wilson, who traveled deep into his family’s past to find the answers to America's racial divide, wrote and co-directed the feature length documentary that aired nationally on MSNBC in 2008.
Wilson will also provide the keynote address for The U’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Muenster University Center. His program, “Meeting David Wilson: A Conversation about Race in America,” will follow a 6 p.m. reception for the journalist inside the ballroom. Additionally, individuals recognized for their outstanding commitment in the advancement of diversity will be presented with awards on Wednesday evening, following Wilson’s keynote address.

Wilson to South Dakota,” said Erin Thin Elk, assistant diversity officer at USD. “David’s reflective journey in researching his ancestors’ divided past in order to live in a more harmonious, just society compliments USD’s liberal learning education – a vision true to the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”
Founder and managing editor of theGrio.com, Wilson is a 28-year-old African-American journalist. He co-created the Web site, TheGrio.com, with NBC News to provide African- Americans with stories and perspectives that appeal to their culture but are underrepresented in existing national news outlets. The Web site (http://thegrio.com) features aggregated and original video packages, news articles and blogs on everything from breaking news to politics and entertainment.
