The 30-second video, titled “We Bet They’re Wearing Red,” features notable USD alumnus and USD Foundation Vice President of Development Noah Shepard ’10. It served as the annual Summit League Tournament commercial.
“While we do a lot of exciting video projects for many mediums, working on our annual TV spot is often one of our most exciting, high-adrenaline projects, especially when we know it will debut at the Summit League Tournament,” said Hailie Warren ’11, director of public relations and brand engagement for Marketing Communications & University Relations. “When approaching bigger projects like this one, we try to do something we’ve never done before, whether that be with a new script style or a different approach to video. In this case, we did a bit of both, and we felt really good about the end result.”
“This is the second Emmy nomination USD has received for its commercials since 2020, and it really speaks to the caliber of marketing professionals at USD – who of course are all alumni of the university’s media and journalism department,” said Michelle Cwach, assistant vice president of Marketing Communications & University Relations.
The Emmy-nominated team, consisting of Warren, director, Cwach, writer, and Zbyněk Surovec ’20, cinematographer, created the 30-second spot to support USD’s recent billboard campaign promoting alumni success across the state.
“The University of South Dakota has an incredible alumni community, and we were delighted to be able to highlight their achievements in our recent marketing campaign,” said Cwach. “I’m so proud of our in-house team for successfully telling the story that so many of the leaders and builders of our communities in South Dakota and beyond are Coyotes.”

The 23rd annual National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. More information can be found at midwestemmys.org.
