USD Sanford Med School Graduate Wins National Award
Stacy Kern, M.D., a 2014 graduate of the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, has been recognized as a national research award winner by the Society of Pediatric Research. Dr. Kern’s research addressed the impacts of maternal diabetes and fat intake on fetal health and the risk of cardiovascular disease in the developing offspring. Funding assistance for this research was provided by the University of South Dakota - Sanford School of Medicine and Sanford Research. Dr. Kern worked with a team of research scientists in the Children’s Health Research Center in Sioux Falls.
Dr. Kern has been invited to present her research and findings and accept her award at the upcoming annual meeting of the Pediatric Academic Society, to be held in San Diego, Calif.
Dr. Kern has served since her graduation from medical school as a resident at the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls. This summer she will begin a fellowship in neonatology at the University of Iowa.
