USD to Honor First Generation Students
The University of South Dakota will celebrate first-generation students Thursday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Muenster University Center Pit Lounge.
Attendants can engage in interactive first-generation trivia, write notes of encouragement and contribute to building a brochure depicting the first-generation student experience by sharing their feedback. Those who participate in a first-generation survey, will have a chance to win a raffle prize.
At USD, roughly 1,700 students identify as the first in their family to go to college. Between 300-400 students in each incoming class are first-generation students. According to the Center for First-Generation Student Success, about 33 percent of college students are the first in their family to attend.
