USD to Host South Dakota Education Association Student Conference
VERMILLION, S.D. -- The annual South Dakota Education Association (SDEA) Student Conference will be held in the University of South Dakota's Delzell School of Education Thursday and Friday, April 21-22. Those attending the conference will also volunteer at the Vermillion Parent Teacher Association carnival on Friday for the organization’s annual service project.
The event is a professional conference for teacher education majors. Those in attendance include student members of SDEA representing education programs from across South Dakota. The conference provides training in topics related to students' future careers and includes presentations from K-12 teachers and administrators.
Sarah Lutz, 2016 South Dakota Teacher of the Year, will be the keynote speaker. Lutz is a third grade teacher at Stanley County Elementary in Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and is a member of the school’s leadership team. She serves as a volunteer coach for the Girls on the Run program and works to promote parent involvement.
