The ACEJMC is the agency responsible for the evaluation of professional journalism and mass communications programs in colleges and universities.

Twenty-five council members unanimously voted to approve the programs at the ACEJMC meeting in Portland, Ore., this month after USD implemented a comprehensive self-study and site visit from ACEJMC representatives. USD's programs were reviewed against its own objectives as well as nine accrediting standards set by the Council, involving quality of courses, instructors, facilities and diversity, to ensure students are prepared for professional careers in journalism and mass communications.

"I'm very proud that the ACEJMC recognized the strength of our CMJ program and has awarded it re-accreditation," said Matthew Moen, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. "It's a testament to the high quality of our programs and it tells people we adhere to the highest national standards."

According to information released by the ACEJMC, USD’s CMJ department is one of only 114 accredited programs in the world.
