Beginning this week, “Science, Culture and History of the Missouri River” will focus on important topics concerning the Missouri River, including ecosystem restoration, natural and cultural history of the river and impacts of policy decisions on the river. Designed for K through 12 teachers but open to all students, the course will balance lectures with field trips to observe the Missouri River and its tributaries. Special emphasis with this interdisciplinary course will address the causes and impacts of the Flood of 2011.

Faculty and graduate students from USD will lead the course, which will include speakers from the National Park Service, Army Corps of Engineers, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department, Nebraska Game and Parks and the South Dakota Attorney General’s office.
