As a graphic design student, you'll learn a rich array of graphic design tools and work with faculty to broaden your understanding of the design field. You will utilize design thinking to work in both self-initiated and client-associated environments. You'll be prepared to work at the best agencies and studios in careers such as art director, web and app designer, production artist and branding designer. As an undergraduate graphic design student, you will learn the basics of your design major through courses such as brand identity, typography, digital design, web design, package design, publication design portfolio design which allows you to customize your program of study to match your career goals and art interests.
The BFA in art education is a four-year degree program that prepares you for certification to teach K-12 visual arts or pursue another professional career. This degree is offered in conjunction with the School of Education to ensure that you are equally and comprehensively exposed to the academic and artistic components of the degree. As a graphic design major at USD, you can get involved and become a member of the local American Institute of Graphic Art (AIGA) chapter which provides opportunities in the local design community and builds leadership skills that will be invaluable as they move into the professional world.
Because of the knowledge I gained and the support from faculty, I scored an internship at Hunter Douglas over the summer of 2021 and am still there today. Working on their Customer Experience Communications team as a junior graphic designer is the real-world experience that truly has prepared me for life after college.
