Students from USD’s Beacom School of Business partnered with Sanford Health Vermillion to provide USD students, faculty and staff a convenient option to receive their annual flu shots without having to leave campus.

On Oct. 2, clinicians from Sanford Health were stationed in the Beacom atrium, taking walk-ins as well as scheduled appointments from any USD personnel who wished to receive a vaccine.

More than 35 students and faculty received a flu vaccination over the course of the three- hour event.

Part of the Division of Health Services Management, HSAD 400 introduces students to basic epidemiologic concepts and helps students gain an understanding of the role of epidemiology in developing prevention strategies and policy relevant to the unique interaction of communities, licensed health professionals and a variety of regulatory and health services organizations.

“We wanted to host this flu shot clinic to provide students with a quick and easy option to get their flu shot between classes,” said Shepherd. “In our course, we have several discussions on the importance of providing increased access to essential care, and this flu shot clinic was an example of creating that access and bridging the gaps.”

Shepherd plans to continue this collaboration and offer a similar clinic every fall semester.
