USD Theater to Open Season Oct. 1 With ‘Stop Kiss’
In the hustle and bustle of New York City, New York, Callie and Sara meet by happenstance and change the course of one another’s trajectory forever. Balanced between two decades and endless possibilities, this award-winning romance asks the audience what they would do in the face of irrational violence. Will you straddle or swerve?
Director Lainie Vansant, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of USD’s Department of Theatre with a specialty in directing and playwriting. Additionally, she serves as the coordinator of marketing and the MFA directing program.
“This cast and crew are so incredibly passionate about this project,” Vansant said. “It's a tough story to tell, but it's a valuable one. We've been working hard to share it with you!”
Logan Culhane plays the chaotic and energetic native New Yorker, Callie. Logan is a junior BFA musical theatre major from Mitchell, South Dakota. Tessa Gogolin plays the steady and heartwarming new to town, Sara. Tessa is also a junior BFA musical theatre major from Huron, South Dakota. Joining Logan and Tessa onstage are BFA musical theater majors seniors Jag Weyer and Skyler Weaver and juniors Ollie Wells, Cam Parrack and Wyatt Stewart.
Many BFA design and technology students are also working behind the scenes to bring the show to life. Junior Achilles Anderson serves as associate costume designer and junior Rex Williams serves as makeup and hair designer. Senior Sophie Kothe is properties head. Senior Anna Billingsley and junior Lillian Kellar serve as lighting designers with junior Jasper Christian as sound designer.
Tickets can be purchased at the USD Theatre box office from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from noon to curtain on show days or by calling 605-658-3484. Tickets can also be purchased online. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for senior citizens (62+), $10 for youth (K-12) and non-USD students, and free for USD students with ID.
