Knudson School of Law Professors Honored at Faculty Awards Ceremony
Professor Tyler Moore, J.D., was awarded the prestigious John Wesley Jackson Faculty of the Year Award, and Professor Christopher Healy, J.D., was recognized as the 2026 Adjunct Professor of the Year.
Moore and Healy were both nominated by students and then selected based on their efforts to improve legal education, public service and scholarship, as well as their general contributions to the academic environment of the law school.
“Professor Moore combines brilliant intellect with curiosity, care and commitment to community,” said Neil Fulton, Dean of USD’s law school. “He pushes students to stretch beyond their existing limits and is a trusted mentor who joins them on their intellectual journey. It is a one of a kind talent to lead discussions of the constitutional limits on executive power and agricultural production with equal aplomb. We are fortunate to have that one of a kind talent.”
Two representatives from the Lynn, Jackson, Shultz and Lebrun Law Firm were in the ceremony’s audience, as the South Dakota firm has sponsored the JWJ Award since it was established in 1981. The award was founded by Horace and Dorothy Jackson.
Healy, who stepped up to teach in the place of an occupied faculty member, was honored with the Adjunct of the Year award. He was recognized for having a class that USD students look forward to attending—a testament to his skills even as an adjunct professor who is newer to teaching.
“Adjunct Professors do not teach because they need to, because it is easy or because it is lucrative. They do it because it matters,” said Fulton. “Healy fully embraces that mission with joy and zeal. He has introduced 1L’s not only to the complexity of property law, but also the values and skills of the profession. Not only does he guide USD through important legal questions in the General Counsel’s office, he shapes the next generation of lawyers to follow his example.”
The ceremony also acknowledged all faculty for their scholarship works published in 2025 and forthcoming works set to be published in 2026.
