CPCM to Co-Host Child Abuse Prevention Training Conference

The upcoming training event—expected to draw hundreds of professionals spanning mental health coaches, teachers, medical professionals, child advocates and more—will bring together multidisciplinary team members while also offering continuing education.
Attendees will hear from national and regional speakers on topics aimed at deepening understanding of child abuse and strengthening response efforts. Keynote addresses will feature:
- “Be the Difference: Belonging is the Support We Need” – Baelin Elmore, speaker, trainer and belonging expert
- “Parenting Pathways: Real Talk with Real Providers” – Panel discussion
- “Hope in Action: Turning Struggle into Strength” – Tifanie Petero, victim services director, Pennington County State Attorney’s Office
Conference participants can also choose from multiple breakout sessions, including:
- “Honoring Lakota Ways to Protect and Uplift Children” – Damon Leader Charge
- “Apply Brain Science to Work as Frontline Professionals” – Audra Fullerton
- “Mastering the Stand: Best Practices for Testifying as an Expert Witness in Criminal Trials” – Sarah Thorne

A service center within the University of South Dakota’s School of Health Sciences, the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment, joins local, tribal, state and federal efforts in the fight against child sexual abuse and other forms of maltreatment in South Dakota.
