During his time in the South Dakota Legislature, he has been instrumental in passing legislation to address needs around mental health care, child care, sex trafficking and sexual assault. He currently serves on the Health and Human Services and Local Government committees. Before Reed’s election to the South Dakota Legislature, he served in the Brookings City Government for 18 years, including as mayor. Reed recently retired as chief executive officer of the Brookings Economic Development Corporation.

“CPCM has established a foundation of working across multiple disciplines to better our state’s response to child maltreatment and strengthen our prevention strategies,” said Reed. “The work will continue to utilize national best practices and aim to end child maltreatment in our state.”

The CPCM’s Advisory Board includes leaders from state agencies, service providers and community advocates. The board guides the center’s execution of a multi-year strategic plan and mission to end child maltreatment in South Dakota.
