Former USD Medical School Dean Honored by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Dr. Rod Parry, who served as dean of the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine from 2004 to 2012, has been selected to receive the prestigious Dr. Warren J. Warwick Award by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Dr. Parry will be presented with this award at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual gala sponsored by the organization’s Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter, to be held November 23, 2019 in Minneapolis.
Dr. Parry, a pulmonologist, assisted in the foundation and development of the cystic fibrosis center in South Dakota, and he also served on the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He was a pioneer in advocating that adult pulmonologists should treat adult patients with cystic fibrosis. He is also recognized for his research regarding respiratory diseases and the genetics of asthma.
The Canistota, South Dakota, native is past president of the South Dakota Medical Association and a Master in the American College of Physicians. Now retired, he continues to serve as an advisor to USD’s medical school.
