“I am humbled to be nominated and accepted to the AGB Institute for Leadership & Governance,” said Perry. “It is quite an honor for someone from USD to be recognized among other national leaders in higher education and it is quite a testament to USD’s national profile.”

The AGB Institute for Leadership & Governance is designed for innovative, adaptive leaders who have a passion for higher education, a drive to serve as a college or university president and a commitment to shaping the future of the sector.

The six-month institute will connect participants with top higher education leaders to discuss leadership and governance challenges facing institutions of higher learning.

Perry has served as vice president of USD’s Sioux Falls campus since 2022, advancing the university’s mission to provide accessible and high-quality education that aligns with regional workforce demand in the state’s largest and fastest growing city.

Prior to coming to USD, Perry worked for seven years at the South Dakota Board of Regents central office, including stints as the vice president for academic affairs and the senior advisor for policy and planning. He also spent a decade as a management consultant for city and county governments prior to working in higher education.

He is a current member – and past chair – of the South Dakota Humanities Council Board of Directors and is a commissioner with the Education Commission of the States.

Perry holds a B.S. from the University of Evansville, an M.A. from Indiana University Indianapolis and Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.
