USD English Student Selected as Summer Intern at National Endowment for the Humanities
Founded in 1965, the NEH supports research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.
Sehr, a native of Rapid City, will work remotely from South Dakota due to health and safety concerns involving the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In the Division of Research Programs, I’ll research and write profiles on various scholars who are doing NEH-funded research. I will also review applications for various NEH fellowships and grants,” he said.
According to an email the NEH sent to Sehr, approximately 250 students applied for the internship in the Division of Research. After an interview, Sehr was selected as one of only two or three interns in the division.
At USD, Sehr has served as the editor of the journal of the Vermillion Literary Project (the “Red Coyote”), received the nationally competitive Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship and was recently inducted into USD’s chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. According to Sehr, his interests and experiences align well with his NEH internship.
“I can’t wait to be a part of supporting the wide array of humanities scholarship being done throughout the country, drawing on my passion for the liberal arts I have gained at USD,” he said.
