Over the three-month competition, the club accrued points on Twitter for every organic tweet, like, retweet, quoted tweet and reply using #LevelNextChampions. USD beat 123 college and university teams from across the nation and won by over 10,000 points.

“We were in fifth place when the Coyote Crazies found our posts, and by the end of that day, we had taken the lead and held it for most of the remainder of the competition,” said Derek Bierschbach, president, founder and graduate assistant of the USD Esports club. “The support of their members on every single post powered us for a large portion of the contest. Other campus organizations and alumni also chipped in to help us win.”

The USD Esports club was presented with a check by Coyote Sports Properties, an entity of Learfield IMG, on Jan. 28.

“We plan on saving most of the winnings, but some of the things we will spend the money are new headsets for the Esports Arena, training applications and a new streaming PC to provide our viewers with a better experience,” Bierschbach said.
