USD’s Accessibility Awareness Day event is an educational and outreach event focused on digital access and the role of assistive technology in removing barriers to success for students with learning variabilities.

“Events like these demonstrate how our USD community cares about people with disabilities,” reflects Olivia Allen, USD senior and president of USD Student Access. “People with and without disabilities should come to Accessibility Awareness Day to see what resources are available! There can be so many obstacles to accessing resources–it’s a lot of calls and reaching out to different people. Events like this bring experts into the same space and make it easier to know what is available.”

Occurring on World Sight Day, which promotes eye health and raises awareness of vision impairment and blindness, this semester’s Accessibility Awareness Day features a keynote speech by Laura Bostick, Ed.D., who champions accessibility to education for blind and low-vision students.

Accessibility Awareness Day also includes a student panel, assistive technology presentations, food, prizes, the chance to win USD gear and more. The schedule of events is as follows:

  • 10 a.m. – Introduction
  • 10:15 a.m. – Keynote Speaker: Laura Bostick, Ed.D.
