Get ready for the assuredly authentic, humorous, truly touching, “Every Brilliant Thing.”

Written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, “Every Brilliant Thing” is based on a young person’s experience coping with their mother’s depression by making a list of the things that make them happy in the world.

A one-person play, “Every Brilliant Thing” follows a single performer — played on alternating nights by Kaden Hopkins and Kaeli Vondra — as they explore their perspectives of school, death, love and their mother’s depression.

Through the performer’s personal exploration, they create a lengthy list of everything that makes life worth living. This list of brilliant things eventually becomes the touchstone they reference throughout their life.

"Every Brilliant Thing” touches on themes of hope, uncertainty, relationships, solitude and forgiveness among many more.

Macmillan wrote the play to communicate to the world that people are not alone in their inner turmoil and struggles.

Audiences should plan to participate in the action. Most audience members will receive cards with assigned numbers and entries from the select list before the show. When prompted by the performer, audience members with corresponding cards will read their entries aloud.

“’Every Brilliant Thing’ blends comedy, tragedy, and heart into a one-of-a-kind show,” said director Ryan Bernier. “It’s a life-affirming story about how to find hope through focusing on the smallest things in life. The cast is amazing and it's a production that's really worth seeing in person. Come check it out; it’s a ‘Brilliant’ show!”
