Why Study Finance?

As a finance major at USD, you will learn to think critically and collaborate effectively. Here you will have access to state-of-the-art technology, courses, and extracurricular activities that are highly relevant and valued in the financial industry. You will have the option to follow one of three tracks in finance including Investments, Corporate Finance, and Financial Institutions Management to help you prepare and become successful in any area of finance. A degree in finance provides a solid foundation for students wanting to explore careers such as financial analysts, financial planners, international traders, CFO's or Treasurers at major corporations, loan officers or bank examiners. You will develop the problem-solving, decision making and budgeting skills to help businesses thrive. As a finance major, it is essential to be a great communicator, team player and have a passion for numbers.

The finance minor is available only to business students. You will expand your knowledge in money management, research and data analysis and be able to help organizations utilize their resources.

Business majors meeting requirements for entry into the Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program may opt to complete both the B.B.A and M.B.A. concurrently. Students who pursue this fast-track option will be awarded their undergraduate and graduate degrees simultaneously, upon completion of the two programs. Permission to be awarded the undergraduate degree prior to the completion of the graduate degree is available.

Gain Real-World Experience

Coyote Business Consulting is a student-centered initiative at the USD Beacom School of Business designed to help businesses stay competitive in the state of South Dakota and throughout the region. The program enables student-teams, with the guidance of faculty advisors, to help businesses solve a critical problem for their organization.

Coyote Business Consulting is intended to be mutually beneficial for both the students and the businesses. The consulting service will be offered at no charge to businesses, and students will have the opportunity to receive academic credits, financial support, and real-world experience. This program is available to all businesses, but a special emphasis will be placed on small businesses, as they are the backbone of the economy.

Financial Management Association (FMA)

This organization works to expose USD's Finance and Business majors to as many facets of the world of finance as possible. The the past, they have traveled to New York City, Chicago, San Francisco and Minneapolis and toured companies including Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Tesla, AirBNB, Facebook, NVIDIA and more. Being involved in FMA will give you the opportunity to ask practicing professionals questions and gain a deeper insight into possible career opportunities.

USD offers you flexible options to pursue your business degree where ever you want to be. In addition to our main campus experience, you can also complete this program at USD - Sioux Falls or online, opening the door to amazing career opportunities where you want them.
